In case you do not use Firefox, the first step is to install is from this site: https://www.mozilla.org.

o  IP Address: tavmunka.kre.hu

o  Port: 3128

o  Username: the KRE e-mail address before the @ (for example in case of john.snow@kre.hu -> john.snow)

o  Password: the same as the password of the KRE e-mail address

-        Click Save.

-        You get back to a window, which can be closed.

-        2. Default (Turn off)

1. Through tavmunka.kre.hu you can only reach the online database subscribed by the university and this information page.

2. Through Default (Turn off), you can reach the internet, BUT not the databases.

è     This means, from tavmunka.kre.hu proxy you can only reach the databases

After you have finished the work on the databases, change to Default (Turn off  ‘KRE tavmunka.kre.hu’) again to continue everyday browsing on the internet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can request access?

Everyone who owns a Károli email address – ending with @kre.hu

Why @kre.hu address is necessary?

The proxy works on an encrypted channel, using user name+password.

The user name is the first part of the email address – before the @ - the password is the same as the e-mail address.

This is necessary becasue of security reasons, so only those who entitled can reach the databases, and the IT infrastructure of the university can not be attacked from a network from outside.

What should I do if the password of the kre address changes?

The password should be changed before using the proxy in the FoxyProxy module.

To to this: left mouse click on the fox head icon, then Options, and than next to the KRE proxy click Edit. After giving the new password Save it.

Can I share my data with others?

No, because of security reasons. Giving it to others can provide access to personal correspondence,  misuse of leaked personal data and causeless mass download of data, which should result in blocking the account.

Firefox does not allow to open any links, “potential security risk ahead”

Please check if you are using NOD32 from ESET, and disable the SSL-filtering feature in the control panel of the software.

How and from where can be the service safely used?

Preferably from a home desktop computer. From every computer where the user has disposal of. It can also be used safely from a laptop.
It is not recommended to log in from computers where it can not be guaranteed that the login details won’t get into unauthorized hands (for example: net cafe)

Do I need to request access to the databases one by one?

No, you are going to have access automatically to all of them.

I would like to reach a database for which the university does not have subscription. Where can this database be reached?

http://compass.mtak.hu/ clicking on „Database” you can search for the Database you need and find out which institutions have subscription in Hungary.
